Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between translation and interpreting?
Interpreting is an oral translation in which the interpreter conveys the speech in another language simultaneously or after taking notes. On the contrary, translation itself involves written texts. As this process takes more time, it allows for terminological and style verification.
Do you want to hire interpreting services?
Here’s what you should know before:
Providing interpreting services for an event implies a previous planning so as to avoid any mishaps.
On the one hand, you need to contact and coordinate the interpreter or team of interpreters in advance to give them time to prepare for the assignment. For that you will have to provide certain information such as the agenda, any visual aids that will be projected (presentations or videos), documents that will be read (speeches, bibliographical summaries), etc.
On the other hand, the technical aspect must be taken into account. Depending on the type of event, the particularities of the venue and the type of interpreting selected, we will use a booth and receptors, portable interpreting devices or the corresponding software for RSI.
What information do you have to provide to receive an accurate budget?
For translation purposes I will need a copy of the document or, alternatively, a fragment of it in order to analyze its length and level of technicality to provide an estimated delivery turnaround.
Whereas for interpreting services I will need to know the main subject, language pair and the date and schedule of the event.
Why should you work with a freelance translator or interpreter?
By establishing a business relationship with a freelancer, you are supporting individual entrepreneurship. Without a doubt, you will receive more personalized and attentive service. It also simplifies the chain of intermediaries, which reduces costs and guarantees fair payment for services rendered.
What is the code of ethics that I abide by?
As a member of the Spanish Association of Translators, Proofreaders and Interpreters (Asetrad, by its Spanish acronym), I follow their code of ethics.
